These unusual beads are individually carved from fossilized Stegodon, an ancient animal from the Proboscidea family. These trunk-bearing mammal creatures inhabited areas near the Solo River in central Java from 11.6 mya to late Pleistocene, with some records suggesting they may have survived up until four millennium ago. The name for stegodon comes from the Greek word "stegein," which roughly translates to "roofed tooth," a testament to the creature's distinctive molars.
These special beads measure approximately 8-15 x 13-17mm, with a hole size of 2mm. Each strand measures approximately 26 inches in length, and includes approximately 50 beads each. Bead shape will vary between round to cylindrical. Please let us know in advance if you have any specific needs. Own a piece of mammal history with these fun treasures! Limited supply available.
