Pulverized glass of various colors is poured into a clay mold, using a cassava stem for the bead's hole. The mold is placed in a furnace and heated until the glass particles congeal without actually melting and the stem burns out. People of West Africa have been making beads in this manner since the 1600s. Beads are measure 4-7 mm in diameter. They may be somewhat irregular in shape for a more rustic look. Two strands shown in image however strands are sold individually. Each strand is unique and bead count is intended to be approximate.
